It is official, diets do not work – not long term anyway!
How many women do you know who go from diet to diet – Cambridge/Atkins/Weight watchers? They lose the weight and in time regain all they lost and on occasion, more.
The problem is the emphasis tends to be very much on losing the weight which should factor highly but does not stop here. Support and advice on maintaining weight is absolutely key. Healthy eating and living should be the ultimate goal. No going back to eating the very foods you find comfort in. No going back to drinking glasses of carbonated drinks and sweet juices throughout the day.
I like the well known quote by Albert Einstein;
“Insanity; doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results”.
In this case, I translate this as;
“You cannot continue to eat the same foods, drink the same drinks and expect to look any different.”
Change is necessary and for the long term. Losing weight for a one off event such as a wedding or beach holiday could do your body more harm than good.
Take a look at the effects of yo yo dieting;
1. Low-calorie diets lead to muscle wasting, which means once you get back to your normal eating habits, you willl be left with a physique that lacks muscle and carries excess fat.
2. Yo yo dieting slows down your metabolism, which can lead to low energy levels. When the body does not have the necessary calories to function, it makes adjustments. These adjustments can mean limited brain function, tiredness, fatigue and irritability.
So to end, aim for healthy living on a permanent basis. You really cannot go wrong!
