In my years as a beauty consultant and Makeup Artist, one of the frequently asked questions by women across the age-spectrum is how to create a flawless skin. Statistics reveal that women spend a yearly average of £250 on complexion enhancing cosmetics; cleansers, toners, fresheners, even-tone milk, foundations and powders. It is no doubt that radiant skin forms the foundation in which a woman’s confidence is built and this explains why an imperfect foundation can leave a woman feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable as an under-sized pair of knee high boots. Every woman covets a good facial skin but while she is ready to spend money on the crème of cosmetics which acts as décor embellishing her dressing table, she is not ready to spend time on her face. Age can work in our favour or against us; while a woman in her early 20’s may struggle to keep her acne under control another woman in her late 30’s who may have had a perfect skin in her late 20’s but now experiencing a turbulent skin as result of hormonal change.
My advice mostly is simple; because of changing lifestyle bringing about changes on our skin, your make up is ever as radiant as the skin it sits on, by cultivating the art of facials, we start our journey to flawless skin. If we expand our beauty regimen by devoting a few minutes extra to our makeup ritual we will get it right in the end. By and large to create that refined and groomed complexion is achievable and to help us get better at it, I have devised a step to step guide which is essential to every woman regardless of their skin tone and type.
3 minutes refresh
All it takes to cleanse and moisturise your skin. By far the most essential tip towards a flawless skin is to spend time to takes off the grime and excess oil from your face through cleansing, hydrating and moisturising the skin. In professional Make up terms this can be referred to as facials or prepping the skin Constant practice forms the bedrock of a good make up and it can transform the quality of your skin eventually. It is useful to consider your skin type; is it combination to oily or is it normal to dry, this should inform the choice of cleansers that you make in order to meet the needs of your skin. When you think oily skin, you want to rid the skin of excess oil without stripping its natural moisture and with dry skin you want to beef up moisture.
1 minute Revive
All it takes to apply a primer. Primers are essential for the contemporary woman. They can awake and tighten a tired complexion. A good primer creates a perfect canvas for the foundation application by filling in tiny gaps on the skin’s surface so that the foundation glides on smoothly and stays put. Most primers are suitable for all skin types, however some are tailored again to fit our skin types; combination to Oily – Mattifying Primer; Normal to dry skin – Illuminating primer. Look at the primer.
3 minutes cover
All it takes to apply a foundation. A foundation with buildable coverage is all you need to get. It is essential that you find a shade that complements your skin tone. A bronze skin tone woman wearing an ivory tone foundation is a preparing herself for a scene at the London dungeon. A proper foundation application should give you a polished matte looks for oily skin and a luminous finish for a dry skin.
1 minute conceal
All it takes to apply a concealer. A major problem area for some women are dark spots, black heads and dark circles and these need to be counteracted with a shade of concealer that complements your skin tone. There different types of concealers in the shops and they are generally better when they are paste-like. The concealer disguises blemishes by gentle patting on the specific spot with fingers or a concealer brush. Avoid making the concealer solid such that it becomes difficult to blend into your foundation.
1 minute Powder
All it takes to defy the shine on your face. Apply a powder to take off the shine away from the forehead, nose and chin. You can either use a matching shade of Mineral compact or loose powder . Some people use translucent powder. A new addition to the powder line is the blotting powder which is applied on the t-zone to hold in an airbrush powder.
1 minute spritz
All it takes to finish. A fad that is fast catching up with our every-day make up wear is the spritz. The everyday woman is waking up to the reality of the universal potential the facial spray. It binds just applied make up and refreshes worn foundation. This is yet not a common product however some major shops stock it.
And this is all it takes to get the flawless skin that you have always desired. I strongly recommend that you repeat the 3 minute refresh step every evening .and once you have mastered the 7 tips the sky is the limit to your flawless skin. In my next article, I will tell you what you should be looking for in the products that will do the job for you. I welcome all you questions and comments and will endeavour answer them as we go along.
